DIGITAL NOMAD VISA
The term “Digital Nomad” defines an individual with a job that is 100% remote and, due to the greater flexibility of this format, can move frequently from country to country and live in different places while working.
In October 2022 Portugal introduced a new digital nomad visa Program offering Citizens, outside the EU/EEA/Swiss, both Temporary Stay Visas for Digital Nomads and the Residence Visa and Residence Permit for Digital Nomads.
The Temporary Stay Visa allows for stays in Portugal for up to 1 year , with the possibility of renewal.
The Digital Nomad Residence Visa allows for a longer stay in Portugal and is a good option for those seeking to get residence or start the path toward Portuguese citizenship.
Applicants must :
- Be non-EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens
- Have an income that is 4x the Portuguese minimum wage, so €2,800 per month.
- Be self-employed or employed by a company outside of Portugal
- Once a resident in Portugal, Digital Nomads can apply for the Non-Habitual Resident Tax Regime and, after 5 years of living in the country, they can apply for Portuguese Citizenship.
